The team at Microgaming released Mega Moolah in 2006 as its third major slot release， after Lara Croft: Tomb Raider™ in 2004 and the customisable online slot game， MySlot，Online Casino Games in 2005.

On 24 June 2018， the Mega Moolah progressive jackpot was triggered for a record amount of £13.2m ($20m at the time of winning).

However， this was beaten on 30 April 2021， when it hit a new record amount of €19.4m ($21.2m) by a player in a Belgian casino.

This means Microgaming’s Mega Moolah has held multiple world records for the world’s largest payout on online slot machines.

Since its initial release， Microgaming has reported that it has paid out over €1.5bn in progressive jackpot wins.
